I wanted to put a plug in for a fantastic tv show called Parenthood on NBC. They are on their 2nd season. I've been watching this show since the first episode and it has become one of my favorites! This show is not your typical murder mystery, lawyer related or reality show. It is a show about real issues with real people. you can relate to this family on this show. They deal with every day issues such as your 16 year old daughter starting to date, or the issue of struggling with your spouse on if you want to have another baby, or your child who has Asperger's which is a form of Autism. This show makes you laugh and makes you cry because it's real! Please check this show out and fall in love with the family as I did!
The reason why I mention this show on this blog is because of the shows support of Autism. On the show one of the couples son, Max, has Asperger's. This whole storyline touches my heart. I don't know anyone with Asperger's or who has Autism. I have never even heard of Asperger's before this show. That in itself shows what a powerful tool tv is. This show made me aware of a disorder that I never even knew existed. Now I want to make you aware also. I am learning more and more just by watching the show and doing a little research. I have always held a special place in my heart for autistic children. I believe that, though they may struggle to communicate and for acceptance in some areas, they are brilliant in their own special way. I have always seen it as a challenge to locate that exceptional talent and help it shine. I have dear friends from high school, Tammy and Robert, who have an autistic son, Ethan.
